JEE Main + Advanced is a two-year game. The difference between IIT Bombay CSE and a Tier-3 NIT comes down to about 30 marks in JEE Advanced — and those 30 marks are won not in coaching halls, but in 1:1 mentorship sessions where a senior IITian explains exactly which approach to take on which problem. Here is the full roadmap our JEE 99-percentile students follow.

Class 11 — the foundation year

  • Months 1–4: Mechanics (Physics), Mole concept + Atomic structure (Chemistry), Quadratic + Sequences (Math). NCERT first, HC Verma + RD Sharma + OP Tandon next.
  • Months 5–8: Thermodynamics, Waves, Chemical bonding, Trigonometry, Coordinate Geometry.
  • Months 9–12: Optics, p-Block elements, Calculus foundations, Vectors basics.
  • Mock cadence: 1 chapter test per week + 1 part-syllabus mock per month.

Class 12 — the strategy year

  • Months 1–4: Class 12 NCERT chapters started in parallel with Class 11 revision. Don't drop Class 11.
  • Months 5–8: Full JEE Main pattern mocks every 10 days. Aim 220+ in JEE Main mocks by month 8.
  • Months 9–11: Switch to JEE Advanced pattern. Solve previous-year Advanced papers chapter-wise.
  • Final 30 days: No new content. Mock-only mode. 3 full-length tests per week. Error journaling mandatory.

Subject-wise weightage strategy

  • Mathematics (the differentiator): Calculus + Coordinate Geometry + Algebra carry 60%+ weightage. Master these.
  • Physics (the score-stabiliser): Mechanics + Electromagnetism + Modern Physics — 70% of paper.
  • Chemistry (the high-yield): Physical chemistry > Inorganic > Organic in mark efficiency. Don't ignore Inorganic — it's the most predictable section.

The 99-percentile mindset

JEE Advanced is not about knowing more — it's about knowing what to not attempt. Top scorers leave 6–8 questions deliberately, attack the rest with 90%+ accuracy. This skill is taught only by mentors who have themselves cleared the exam at the top band. We pair every JEE student with an IIT-Bombay / IIT-Delhi / IIT-Kanpur alumnus through our 1:1 online classes.

Common JEE preparation mistakes

  • Switching textbooks every 2 months
  • Solving only easy chapters (skipping calculus + EMI)
  • Ignoring NCERT for Chemistry — fatal mistake
  • No mock-test discipline until last 60 days
  • Studying 14 hours / day with no rest — burnout by November
  • Treating coaching test series as the end goal — they are training tools, not predictors

How a 1:1 IITian mentor accelerates the journey

Coaching gives you content. A 1:1 mentor gives you strategy. They review your weekly mocks, identify why you lost 8 marks in calculus, redesign next week's plan around it, and hold you accountable. That feedback loop is what produces a 99-percentile.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I crack JEE without coaching?

Yes — provided you have a strong 1:1 mentor for weekly review and strategy. Many top-100 JEE Advanced rankers each year come from non-coaching backgrounds. The key is mentorship, not classroom hours.

Which is the best 1:1 online JEE tutor in India?

Anand Tutorials matches JEE students with verified IIT-Bombay / IIT-Delhi / IIT-Kanpur alumni for 1:1 online sessions. Free demo, weekly mock review, and a structured 24-month plan.

How many hours per day for JEE preparation?

Class 11: 6–7 hours/day during school year, 9 hours/day during holidays. Class 12: 8–10 hours/day average. More than 12 hours/day usually backfires.

Is HC Verma enough for JEE Physics?

HC Verma is excellent for JEE Main and the easier 60% of JEE Advanced Physics. For the top 30% of JEE Advanced Physics problems, supplement with Irodov (selectively) and DC Pandey for Mechanics.

Can JEE be cracked from a Tier-2 city like Jabalpur?

Absolutely. With 1:1 online mentorship from an IITian, geography no longer matters. We have JEE Advanced cleared students from Jabalpur, Bhopal, Nagpur and other Tier-2 cities every year.
