How to decide: a 5-question framework
The honest answer to ‘online tuition or coaching’ is that it depends entirely on the child, not the format. Five questions tell you which side to choose. (1) Does my child need peer pressure to start studying, or do they study without it? (2) Is the weakness in one or two specific subjects, or across the board? (3) Do we live in a Tier-2/3 city with limited specialist tutors locally? (4) Is the child currently in last 12 months before a board / NEET / JEE exam and time-poor? (5) Is the household budget tight enough that the cost difference between coaching and 1:1 online actually matters?
If the answers lean self-motivated / weak-in-specific-subjects / Tier-2/3 / last-12-months / budget-conscious — 1:1 online is the better fit. If the child needs the social buzz of a coaching room, is in Class 11 early-stage and discovering weak areas, and the family has budget — coaching adds real value. For most middle-class Indian families in 2026, the sweet spot is hybrid: coaching for peer rhythm + 1:1 online for actual mastery.
